Wellbeing Programs

The Riverside Girls High School community is committed to providing effective individual and whole school student wellbeing support strategies so that each student can develop her personal and intellectual potential.

Features of this supportive school culture include:

  • Relationships between staff and students that acknowledge uniqueness, model acceptance and show respect
  • A year adviser for each cohort who encourages initiative and nurtures independence
  • A mentor program to guide students to attain their educational goals and to balance school, work, family and social activities
  • Access to a school counsellor
  • Opportunities to celebrate diversity
  • Whole school programs that encourage self reflection and the development of resilience

Whole school programs include:

  • A structured merit award system
  • The Stages student behaviour management system
  • Peer Support Training for Year 10 who guide Year 7 into high school
  • Monitoring of student attendance
  • a Year 9 reward camp - ski camp every August to the snow fields
  • A "Back off" self defence course for Year 10 to encourage the skill of keeping safe
  • Year 11 "Start Strong" interviews, with families and senior executive discussing together goal setting for the HSC year
  • Days that celebrate diversity and cultural identity

During the Yr 11 'Start Strong' interviews, every student I spoke to said the best part of the camp was making new friends. They said their established friends, and their new friends, together would help them set goals and have a vision of where they wanted to be after school. The camp achieved this outcome of developing students' collaborative skills.
